A Photo Project

One of the things I like about being “the picture gal” is that people come to me with all sorts of interesting projects. I really just like using my camera, so I’m always open to things that come to me.

Sometimes those come in your typical photo schoots: kids, weddings, individuals. Other times they are ongoing projects that I want to do for personal reasons like documenting places that are dear to my heart from Virginia history to lovely architecture to religious importance.

My favourite thing, though, is the work I do for others that are for something. This winter someone approached me for a project for the Bishop of my church. (If you want to know, the Bishop is the person in charge of my congregation.) Our Bishop is new and the person approaching me thought that he might like a visual reminder of the youth ministry. As anyone with teenage kids or working with teenagers knows, today’s youth face many challenges each and every day.

I took the idea and ran with it. I loved the idea, to be quite frank, and so to me the work was a blessing to me as much as the end result would bless our Bishop.

Because this was done for a charitable cause, and dealing with teenagers, I’m not going to share with you the actual photos. Instead I have a crummy camera phone low-res picture of the final product to share. I’m sure all reading can understand the reasons there.

The idea? Great! Of course then we proceeded to be hit with snow storm after snow storm in my area. Oh yes, this crazy cold and snowy winter made this project take far longer than I ever expected. That is all right, it was worth it! Taking pictures in the snow with the noon-day sun would never have been MY choice, but one works with what they are given!

Of course the snow deeply affected a lot of other things. Like my ability to drive, people’s desire to do much of anything photography related, and let’s not even talk about what it did to me physically. Let’s just say I’m glad it is finally Spring and I hope to have much more interesting work coming and something to fill this blog with!

For now, I leave you with the photo of my really cool project I made. I already turned it in, and the youth as well as leadership all liked my final product. I’m glad. I hope that it will serve its purpose well!
